Internships, Experience & Awards
Intern | New York State Department of Transportation | Spring '08 to Fall '09
Worked on multiple projects in the Office of Policy and Planning under the supervision of Transportation Analysts from the System Performance and Asset Management Bureau. Evaluated condition and accessibility of NYS owned sidewalks to ascertain compliance with Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. Assisted with the creation, management and analysis of statewide GIS databases of state-owned sidewalks, road signs and truck stops. Conducted research of academic, professional and government publications related to studies measuring retro-reflectivity of road signs. During his year long internship with the NYSDOT, Oleg developed familiarity with local government structure in New York State and concepts such as levels of jurisdiction (with respect to highways), functional classification of highways, and linear referencing systems.
 
Intern | Urban Initiatives, Schenectady, NY | Winter '08 to Summer '08
Developed plans and drafted AutoCAD drawings for adaptive reuse of a 19th century church. Composed PhotoShop presentations for Façade Improvement grants. At Urban Initiatives, Oleg had an opportunity to participate in urban redevelopment projects focused in the historic center of Schenectady, as well as to get acquainted with issues in the local real estate, design and construction market.

 
Planning/Research Interests 
Coming from an architectural background, Oleg's concentration is in multi-disciplinary and comprehensive solutions to transportation planning problems. His primary interests include: Urban Design, City Planning, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Mass Transit, Traffic Engineering and Architectural History. 

 
Thesis/Research Paper Topic
Oleg is exploring topics in Transit Oriented Development and issues of integration between Transportation Planning and Urban Design.
